LEGAL ADVOCACY
Our Court Services team provides guidance to victims/survivors through the complexities of the criminal and civil legal processes. We offer assistance with questions regarding the filing of a 50B Domestic Violence Protection Order, often known as a “restraining order,” and the 50C Civil No-Contact Order for cases of Stalking or Non Consensual Sexual Conduct. Court advocates are also available to accompany clients to both civil and criminal court proceedings. Please note, however, that our court advocates do not offer legal advice.
ELECTRONIC FILING FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROTECTIVE ORDERS
We provide walk-in services for the Electronic Filing of Domestic Violence Protection Orders at our offices. For more details, please call us at (252) 431-1926.
This service allows victims to file for protective orders in a secure and private setting with the support of a trained advocate. Choosing this option at our facility not only facilitates the immediate filing process but also grants victims prompt access to the full range of services offered by our organization, including counseling, safety planning, emergency shelter placement services, legal referrals, case management, and assistance with basic needs.
Please note: While we provide a secure location for filing a domestic violence protection order, individuals must appear before a judge or magistrate in person for the initial hearing.
If you need to obtain a Domestic Violence Protection Order, you can reach out to our 24-hour crisis line at 252-425-2492 for support and information about your filing options and other legal resources.
